Circad Develops Electronics for Retailer Refilling of Printer Injet Cartridges
Posted on 27th January 2013
Circad were asked to develop the electronics design for an inject refilling system that was installed in over 1000 US retail stores. The system allowed customers to have their own cartridge filled and tested within minutes at a fraction of the cost of a new one.
Printer inkjet cartridges are very expensive. Often Inkjet printers are sold at a loss because the manufactures will recover the cost and make their profit from the on going cartridge sales. Refilling is popular, however it is messy and often does not produce results as good or as long lasting as an original new cartridge.
We were asked to develop electronics that could test every type of cartridge to ensure that if it was refilled it would work correctly, to prevent wasting time filling a bad one. The electronics also had to print a test pattern once the cartridge was filled to prove its effectiveness.
