Cabin Air Sensor Solutions (CASS) has developed a sensor able to detect in real-time, individual poisonous compounds that can be present in an aircraft cabin. Until now it has not been possible to detect these poisonous compounds to establish and prove their presence.

Circad developed the PCB design for an initial bench device, and then integrated these embedded systems into a hand-held device, and developed the prototype electronics for collecting and presenting the data through custom designed software.

The initial handheld unit design and detection capability has been witness tested and verified using Gas chromatography–mass spectrometry (GC MS) by the National Physical Laboratory in Teddington, UK for the detection of low-level TBP in ‘real-time’.
Leading vermouth brand Martini’s latest positioning centres on the idea that time spent with friends is time well spent. They wanted to support this in a noticeable and practical way. The result was an ice cube-shaped device that anticipates when a drink is finished, uses a Bluetooth transmitter to communicate with the bar in real time and allows staff to prepare drinks in advance.

CIRCAD were selected to design and manufacture the SmartCubes because of their proven track record of PCB design, and their ability for electronics manufacture in the UK within an extremely short timescale.
A DALI (digital addressable lighting interface) ballast controller allows a building management system to automatically control lighting depending on the time of day, ambient light and building occupancy. They are popular for controlling the lighting within bathrooms and corridors of large buildings where a cost saving can be made by not lighting un-occupied rooms.

Circad were asked to create a PCB design for a DALI ballast that was capable of driving three 10 Watt LED’s from the same node, meaning that a building could be lit by a single network. Installation of the product was required within 5 weeks from the request.
